I've seen so many mixed reviews about this movie that sometimes I feel like some reviewers watched an entirely different film. But I completely agree: Encanto is really missing the "heart" of a Disney film. I could even forgive the plot-holes if I felt "something" watching the movie.

Maybe my biggest criticism of the movie is the fact that it exists as a movie. What if Encanto was a TV show instead, following the misadventures of a magical family (minus Mirabel, of course). We would get to see smaller roles like Camilo and Antonio shine on-screen, while also fleshing out subplots like Dolores and Mariano's romance. Or perhaps a Broadway musical, where every featured song gets put into the forefront, instead of replacing 30-seconds worth of dialogue? (Plus, the fact that the movie only has a 99-minute run-time suggests that the songs were only meant to lengthen Encanto to meet the requirements of a feature film.)

I think the movie was good. But it could have been great.
